Twist pile carpets are created by spinning a fine yarn in one direction, then spinning two or more of these together in the opposite direction to twist the fibres together. These individually twisted fibres give a 'robust' look to this pile. An ideal carpet for busy households due to its rugged hardwearing quality and forgiving nature. Choose from plain (single colour) twists, multi- tone heathers, speckled berbers or striped designs. |
Velvet pile carpets are more luxurious in appearance than twist piles and they have a smoother, plusher finish creating an sumptuous elegant look. Due to a more labour intensive manuracturing process they are more costly and usually considered a long term investment for the home. A characteristic of the velvet pile is 'shading' . This is an optical effect of slight tonal colour changes caused by light being reflected differently from the carpet surface. |
